Are you ready for No Place for Hate Week? I am!! Tuesday, February 26 is dedicated to fighting child sexual abuse. We’ve been collecting teddy bears to donate to the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, if you’d like to donate please drop a bear off in the box at the Lares Information Desk!! We’ll kick off the day at 9am in 108-109 Lares & we’re encouraging everyone to support those who have been sexually abused by drawing pictures, writing poems, etc. We’ll also have tea, coffee, & snacks.
During Common Break Stacey Graham, esq. will share her personal story about growing up in the foster care system & experiencing multiple forms of abuse. Chris Kirchner, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Children’s Alliance, will also be on hand to speak about the organization. After Common Break there will be an open forum/sharing circle facilitated by Rachel Breskman (our campus psychologist) , Dr. Stutman (Abington English Prof.) ,Louisa Abney-Babcock (last year’s speaker), & this year’s speakers.
We’d love for you all to stick around for the forum for information, questions, or if you’ve been personally effected by the event! We will also have lunch, t-shirts, bookmarks, ribbons, & more!! I encourage you all to attend or get involved in one form or another! You may not have been abused but chances are you ALL know someone who has as statistics show 1 in 4 girls & 1 in 6 boys are sexually abused before their 18th birthdays!
See you on Tuesday!
