For those of you who don’t know, THON weekend is the culmination of yearlong fundraising efforts for the Four Diamonds Fund. It is a forty-six hour dance marathon, where over 700 dancers stay awake and stand for all forty-six hours while being motivated by their organization and moralers assigned by University Park Morale Captains.
I have been blessed with the opportunity to show my dedication to THON by being one of Abington’s dancers, along with SGA President, Catarina Moreira. Cat and I joined THON together as freshmen and we are really looking forward to sharing this experience.
Although THON weekend is still a month away, there is a lot of preparing that goes into the weekend. Starting January 1st, Cat and I completely cut out caffeine from our diet along with large amounts of sugar and saturated fats. Along with a specific diet we have also been working out to strengthen our bodies to stand for all forty-six hours.
THON weekend is about showing the children that we are there for them through it all, no matter what. Seeing the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park filled to max capacity throughout the weekend is one of the most inspiring things a person will ever witness. I encourage everyone that can to go to THON weekend (February 17-19th) to do so.
